Nature’s Early Warning System: Animals Known as Prophets of the Wild.

Animals and birds are all in some degree sensitive to the coming changes in the weather. By observing their movement, warning of coming storms can be obtained. Sea birds are good barometers. As stormy weather approaches, they leave the water and fly inland in search of food. Wild fowl leave the marshy ground for higher localities, and swallows and rooks fly low before and during bad weather. Before rain, frogs are unusually noisy and their croaking is always a sign that umbrellas will be required. Sheep huddle together near bushes and trees when some instinct warns them that squalls are ahead.
